Eternal Salute To Bob Marley

Whether it’s the soft sounds of “Three Little Birds” or the strong cry of “Redemption Song”, the timeless tunes of the late Bob Marley never seem to get old, and Marley continues his stance as a eternal music icon. Though the singer, songwriter and revolutionary has been gone for over twenty years, the world still continues to find ways to celebrate this great artist.

Bob Marley Week officially starts on February 6, which also marks the artist’s birthday. During this week, in the superstar's birthplace of Nine Miles in St. Ann parish, four of Marley’s sons will commemorate their father’s birthday with a live performance entitled, “Smile Jamaica.” This name is shared with a 1976 concert held by the Jamaican government to promote peace among politically backed gangs in Jamaica during the 70s. During this time, the Prime Minister felt a peace protest was warranted to stop the upheaval that existed among these groups.

The concert, scheduled for February 10, will also be held in part to promote peace, and will feature Stephen, Ky-Mani, Damian and Julian. Ziggy, the most famous of the Marley children is unable to attend the event, and AP sources state that this Grammy award-winning artist rarely visits his home. This week will concur with Jamaica’s busy tourist season, and promoters are looking forward to the success of the event.

The music legend has been called one of music’s greatest icons and has even been hailed as a Prophet by many. Marley, a devout Rastafarian, passed away 26 years ago and the world of music has never been the same. So, if you decide to travel to Jamaica to celebrate the life of Marley with his children, or if you are at home vibing from your favorite Bob medley, find your own personal way of showing your appreciation for a man – a legend who has provided the world with a timeless gift – reggae music.
