Wu Tang’s Set to Release Highly Anticipated Album

“Wu Tang’s Set to Release Highly Anticipated Album”

C.R.E.A.M., Can It Be All So Simple, Wu Tang Clan Aint Nothing To F*&^ Wit…, hit after hit and fourteen years since the release of 36 Chambers, the Wu-Tang Clan has signed a record deal with the original man who has been credited with bringing the Wu to life, Steve Rifkind, CEO of SRC records. Work on the album has already begun with hopes of finishing by the end of 2007. Rifkind made the official announcement back in December on his blog, thelabel.blog.com just after the deal had been set in stone with the 8 emcees.

There have been some successful and some highly acclaimed solo projects released from most of the Wu members within the past few years. Despite their success, Rifkind has consistently suggested to RZA, super-producer of the group, that it was time for another Wu album. Notwithstanding his pressure, the timing was never right. Method Man, RZA, GZA, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Mastah Killah and Ghostface have been involved in their own projects and careers including rapping and acting. But with Steve’s persistence, RZA finally gave another Wu-Tang album his blessing saying he believed that “now was the right time to introduce a new album. “

The pending killa album, tentatively entitled 8 Diagrams, will be the first collective project since the death of the impulsive founding member Ol’ Dirty Bastard in 2004. Sources from Spin magazine have quoted RZA as saying, “this album will provide fans with something that gives them an adrenaline rush.” The highly anticipated album will contain unreleased tracks from ODB, along with the tribute track “Life Changes.” For fans who can’t wait until the end of the year to get their Wu – Tang fix, the Wu-Tang Clan & Friends - Unreleased, a rarities collection is currently available for your listening pleasure.

Fans are buzzing and anxiously awaiting the return of the Wu and the tour scheduled to start after the release of the album. Referring to a burning question, RZA asks, “How can hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is Forever?” Will 8 Diagrams show and prove that Wu-Tang can bring a pulse back to the heart hip-hop or should be hang the wreath on the mic and bow our heads? Only time will tell, but either way …the Killa Bees are coming.

Hudson Set to Make History: Graces Cover of Vogue

Hudson Set to Make History: Graces Cover of Vogue

February 15, 2007

Golden Globe Winner, Academy Award Nominee, and now – Vogue cover model can be added to the repertoire of ‘Dreamgirl’, Jennifer Hudson. On the cover of Vogue Magazine’s March issue, set to be released this month, Hudson will join a small, yet elite club, including Oprah Winfrey and Halle Berry, as the third African American actress and first African American singer to grace the cover of Vogue Magazine.

In her historical debut, Hudson is featured in the magazine’s ‘Power’ issue, which includes an in-depth interview with Editor-At-Large, Andre Leon Talley who has also been spotted and photographed with Hudson over the past few months and has taken an instant liking to the songstress. Noted Photographer, Annie Leibovitz, shot Hudson’s seven-page spread at the renowned Apollo Theatre in Harlem. Many of the photos had been leaked days before it was definite that the actress would be featured on the cover of the mega fashion publication. However after her Golden Globe win and Oscar nomination, critics believed she was a sure pick for the cover.

There is a belief in the publication world that African Americans on covers can’t sell magazines. Anna Wintour – a real-life institution in the fashion world and Editor-in-Chief at Vogue, made the decision to place Hudson on the cover of the ‘Power’ issue. Though this was a risky move to feature an actress with little acting experience and even less exposure, Wintour, best known as, “The Devil in Prada” is notorious for being controversial and daring. The fashionista also has perfect timing since the magazine will be released during Black History month and March is Women’s Herstory month as well.

Jennifer Hudson is having a year that most stars can only dream of. Though Hudson has a beautiful cover and feature story in Essence Magazine, hope is that sales for Vogue will prove that African Americans can be powerful contenders outside of African-American targeted media. The March ‘Power’ issue of Vogue is set to hit newsstands this week

Jay-Z and P-Diddy in Talks to Lauch New Video On-Demand Channel

Jay-Z and P-Diddy in Talks to Lauch New Video On-Demand Channel

February 15, 2007

Just when Hip-Hop America was starting to believe Jay and Diddy didn’t have enough exposure, move over Bob Johnson – these two rap moguls are experimenting with the idea of launching a new urban channel through Video On-Demand.

The two were spotted recently in Philadelphia at Comcast Cable’s corporate operations along with movie producers/brothers, Harvey and Bob Weinstein and Comcast executives Ralph and Brian Roberts. This meeting, said to be the first of many meetings among moguls, was arranged by the Weinsteins who are looking to fund the project. Sources from the New York Post say the meeting was arranged to discuss the need for an “urban focused channel” that would be featured on Comcast’s Video On-Demand network. Comcast currently owns a 51% stake in TV One, a direct competitor of BET, and is aggressively looking to expand its Video On-Demand programming. Cable execs also state that music videos are among the most popular on-demand content – the idea is to create a VO-D version of BET.

While various sources say that Hov and Diddy would serve as managers of some sort for the new channel, their main purpose for the organization would serve as an attraction for younger audiences. The Hip-Hop community is anxious to learn what this could create for urban television; could this generate some serious competition for BET, challenging them to step their game up, or will this be the beginning of more “Making of the Band” reality drama – lets hope not. Either way, Jay-Z and P-Diddy continue to make waves throughout the industry and keep us on our toes.
